Concert Recap

A Night with the King was a sold-out, three-act experience designed to tell the story of Christ through worship, artistry, and community. Hosted with warmth and intention by the incomparable Maya Marchelle, the evening invited the audience into a sacred celebration—from reverent storytelling to joyful Christmas classics to high praise that filled the room with energy and hope.

Host: Maya Marchelle

Opening Moment

The night began with prayer led by Courtland Pickens’ son and godson, grounding the room in reverence and setting the spiritual foundation before the first note was sung.

The Flow of the Night

Act I: The Majesty of the King

Act I opened with a regal and reverent tone as Known MPLS emerged dressed in elegant shades of brown, embodying warmth, royalty, and sacred beauty. This act focused on the announcement and arrival of Christ—the King foretold.

The set began with Hallelujah, reflecting the angel’s message to Joseph and establishing the theological foundation for the night. From there, the music built both musically and spiritually, with each song reinforcing the story of Christ’s power, purpose, and reign.

Siennah Subah delivered a commanding and anointed performance on All Powerful, ushering in a moment of vocal ministry that resonated deeply throughout the room.
What Child Is This / Carol of the Bells carried the wonder and mystery of the season.
Lyndora Turner brought emotional depth and strength to Hero.
The Newborn King, led by Ahjahlai Cargill, lifted the audience to its feet in celebration of Christ the Lord.

The act concluded with And He Shall Reign, a triumphant declaration proclaiming the eternal reign of God—an unmistakable exclamation point to Act I.

Act II: Joy, Reflection & the Heart of Christmas

Act II shifted the atmosphere to one of joy, nostalgia, and heartfelt storytelling—celebrating the humanity of the season while still honoring its sacred core.

George Logan V, one of Courtland Pickens’ youngest students, opened the act with Who Would Imagine a King. His authenticity—including a few nervous chuckles—was met with overwhelming audience support, creating a moment that was both tender and unforgettable.

The trio of Grant Woods, Joaria Jones, and Joshie Williams lit up the room with Mary Did You Know, delivering a dynamic and polished performance.
Danyelle Robinson premiered a jazz-inspired continuation of her original Home for Christmas, offering a refreshing and creative moment.
Fua Yang brought charisma and vocal strength to Give Love on Christmas Day.
Katira Lutterman, Mayah Ruiters, and Camaja Byrd delivered warmth and fire with Someday at Christmas, complete with cozy styling that matched the spirit of the song.

A multi-generational men’s group surprised the audience with roses and charm during Let It Snow, creating one of the night’s most joyful moments. The act closed with The Prayer, performed by Ezra Fraizer and Samara Springer, a deeply moving moment that stirred hope and emotion throughout the room.

Honors & Recognition

Act II concluded with Courtland Pickens honoring leaders who shaped his life and ministry—Bishop Richard Howell Jr.and Pastor Tyrone Maxwell—as well as celebrating David Smith, whose lasting impact on the Minneapolis music community was recognized as he transitions to the DMV area.

A Few of My Favorite Things

One of the most joyful moments of the evening came during A Few of My Favorite Things, a special audience-giveaway segment designed to celebrate and thank those in attendance. With generous donations from our community partners, guests were entered into a digital raffle, seamlessly hosted by Maya Marchelle, where winners were selected at random throughout the night.

The room was filled with excitement and anticipation as names were called, and audience members were surprised with thoughtfully curated gifts. The energy in the space reflected a shared sense of gratitude and delight, making this segment a memorable highlight that brought smiles, laughter, and a deeper sense of connection between the stage and the audience.

This moment served as a beautiful reminder that A Night with the King was not only about what was presented onstage, but also about giving back, celebrating community, and sharing joy together.

Act III: High Praise & Celebration

Act III erupted with high energy and high praise. Known MPLS returned in shades of gray, symbolizing strength, unity, and movement. Small groups danced onto the stage, immediately shifting the room into celebration.

Javarus Thomas ignited the act, leading Stayed On You and You Are Good.
Shaun P and Godgift Iteghete led a powerful declaration with Give Me Oil.
Kennadi Watkins elevated the atmosphere with a show-stopping performance of The Great I Am.

A flowing worship moment followed with Yahweh Flow, led by Emily Sillah and Naomi Nichols. Before the final song, the choir surprised Courtland with a gift and heartfelt words shared by Camaja Byrd, creating one of the most intimate moments of the night.

The concert concluded with Oh What a Gift, followed by a closing prayer from Pastor Andre Duke, sending the audience out uplifted, grateful, and full.
